Litter rate

The litter rate was a property tax that was levied from the 13th to the 19th century by the Margraves of the Mark Meissen for urban land. In sources it is also described as Hufenzins (from Hufe ) or Worfzins or worfzcins .

The Brothers Grimm describe the term in their German dictionary as “a legal expression of the late Middle Ages, apparently only in the Ostmd. common ". Litter interest comes from gewerf , which means something like contribution or levy.
