The Mölltaler Glacier is a ski area in Austria , Carinthia , near Flattach .

Access to the ski area at the Eissee and Schareck (3123 m) is via a funicular, the valley station of which is in Innerfragant near Flattach . 53 km of slopes are available to skiers. However, this information should be used with caution, as not all of the slopes that are very close to each other are usually groomed.

Part of the ski area is on the Wurtenkees . This already strongly receding glacier was renamed “Mölltaler Gletscher” after the development of the marketing department and gave the ski area its name. A power plant road from the Fragant power plant group was used for the development .

The ski area

Access to the Mölltaler Gletscher ski area is via the longest underground funicular in the world, the "Glacier Express" with a length of 4,827 m. This means that the middle station at 2,200 m can be reached quickly and comfortably. There are 4 ascent aids in the middle station. The middle station and Stübele tow lifts, the Wurtenkees gondola lift and the Schwarzkopf 4-seater chairlift.

The “Wurtenkees” cable car takes you to the Eisseehotel at 2,800 m. Already here the promise “Experience 3000” is fulfilled with a view of the first 4 three-thousand meter peaks of the Goldberg group, the Schareck (3,122 m), the Hohen Sonnlick (3,106 m), the Baumbachspitze (3,105 m) and the Weinflaschenkopf (3,008 m).

With the 6-seater chairlift "Mölltaler Gletscher Jet" or the 2-seater chairlift 3,000-meter peaks you can get directly below the summit of the Schareck and have the view of a further 6 3,000-meter peaks, the Großglockner (3,798 m), the Hocharn (3,254 m), the Krumlkeeskopf (3,103 m), the Roten Mann (3,095 m), the Sandkopf (3,090 m), the Arlthöhe (3,084 m) and the surrounding mountain ranges.

There are also two more lifts in the 2nd section. The Klühspies 2-seater chairlift, which transports winter sports fans from just above the Wurtenspeicher to the level of the Eisseehotel, and the Alteck 4-seater chairlift on the opposite slope.

Slope preparation and seal of approval

Winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy up to 17 ski slopes with a total length of 17.4 km in 3 different levels of difficulty (blue, red, black). The piste seal of approval attests to the perfectly groomed pistes.

Summer and winter operation

The Mölltal Glacier is one of the last year-round ski areas, with the number of open slopes depending on the seasonal weather conditions. There are year-round offers for fans of skiing and hiking enthusiasts. The Mölltal Glacier is an ideal starting point, especially for tourers.

The regular revision period is from mid-May to mid-June.

Gastronomy and overnight accommodation

Culinary specialties are offered in the Eisseehotel, the Duisburger Hütte, the Europabar and the Weissseehaus. The Eisseehotel includes a self-service restaurant, a large panoramic terrace and spacious rooms for tour groups.

Training area for international ski associations

Especially in the summer months, many winter sports enthusiasts use the training facilities of the Mölltal Glacier (including ÖSV, DSV, and many more).
