As root suckers , root shoots , suckers , root sprouts , root sprouting , root rash or ground engine plant shoots are called, from root buds, adventitious buds are formed on the surface growing roots. The growth of root shoots is usually triggered by a disruption in the growth substance balance. After being wounded forming hazel , lime trees , the horse chestnut and elm root suckers without wounding the sweet chestnut , the aspen , alder , poplars of section Populus , Robinia , Speierling and pastures . Mountain and Norway maple , oak , common ash , red beech and hornbeam show only a slight tendency towards root brood . Many varieties of figs also willingly form root shoots that make them easy to multiply. In fruit growing, certain rootstocks tend to shoot, but this is perceived as annoying.
