The rooting chain fern ( Woodwardia radicans ) is a species of the genus Woodwardia and belongs to the family of the rib fern family (Blechnaceae).

description

The very large, up to 250 centimeters long, dark green fronds are usually very overhanging. Older fronds often have brood buttons near the tip. The blades are triangular or ovate-lanceolate in outline. The individual feathers are up to 30 centimeters long and have sickle-shaped, notched-toothed sections.

The elongated sori are arranged in two rows along the central rib. The spores ripen from April to August.

Occurrence

The distribution area includes the Canary Islands , Madeira and the Azores as well as Portugal , Spain , Algeria , Italy , Corsica , Sicily and Crete . The preferred location is shady, moist forests in the laurel forest region .
