X-blaster

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

X-Blaster was a browser game with isometric graphics developed by eLOFD and published by Bigpoint . It was online as of October 2006 and at its prime had over 10 million signed-up accounts. The game was stopped in January 2014.

Game principle and technology

In X-Blaster, the pilot climbed into so-called ' Mechs to compete against each other in a 3D arena. At the beginning you could choose between three different Mech types: Ranger (German: Förster), Defender (German: Defender) or Hunter (German: Jäger). Each 'Mech was different from the other two in terms of its weapons and special abilities. The selected Mech was initially in a hangar, the "main center", when it was first logged in. Here new weapons for the Mech could be bought and existing ones improved.

arena

From the hangar you can enter the 3D arena to fight exciting live battles with real opponents in 3D graphics, unlock boxes and collect their contents in order to improve your Mech later in the hangar. There are tons of tons in the arena that can explode when hit and cause damage. There are also so-called combat towers in the arena, which open fire immediately if they are shot at or approached. You can leave the arena via beamer to come to a new arena and meet new opponents, boxes, barrels and battle towers.

The game is divided into five leagues, which can be reached depending on the strength of your own mech. The leagues are each divided into different strength groups. So you are always with other 'Mechs in an arena that have roughly the same strength as your own. If the ammunition is used up or you have been destroyed, you return to the hangar. There the energy is restored and, if available, the ammunition is replenished. In the hangar you can also upgrade your mech with the skill points or credits you have collected. That means buying new weapons or upgrading existing ones and buying new ammunition.

Clan league

The clan league is basically the same as the arena, except that you have to be in a clan of at least 5 members to enter. The clan league is also divided, but into three leagues. Every mech in the clan league has a so-called clan tag, which is in front of its name in the clan league, so every player knows which clan the mech is in. (This is especially useful in clan wars or clan friendships). In the clan league, a mech only gets a certain percentage of skill points, which range from 50 to 200%. Depending on the strength of the mech in your own clan.

Missions

You can also do missions in X-Blaster. The missions are always about a special assignment that has to be fulfilled. For example, a box has to be destroyed, duels have to be fought or opposing mechs have to be defeated. There are only 30 missions you can complete. You can only start the next mission if you have successfully completed the currently active mission.

Duels

It is possible to take part in duels or to create one yourself. Duels always take place in a separate arena that cannot be left using a projector. 2-4 players take part and the time can be set in one-minute steps from 2 to 10 minutes. There are also private duels, in which you enter the names of the players with whom you want to duel. Only the previously registered players can join the duel there.

Game objective

One aim of the game is to win the jackpot of a maximum of 10,000 euros in a monthly battle for all registered players. The jackpot is filled by collecting euro symbols, which are also contained in boxes. If you don't have 10,000 euros at the time you win, you only get paid out for the amount you have collected.

The function for the battle for your own jackpot was discontinued in December 2010.

Game costs

The game itself does not incur any additional costs other than internet access. However, it is possible to purchase virtual goods in the game with real money, the credits that can be used to repair the mech, premium or benefit packages can also be booked. With Premium you don't get any in-game advertising, you can quickly leave the arena or log out faster. With the benefit packages you get more box contents or the contents are doubled.

technology

X-Blaster is completely based on Adobe Flash and Java and can be played with all common browsers according to the software-as-a-service principle.

Awards

The game was voted first in the 2006 German Developer Award in the Best German Browser Game 2006 category.
