German developer award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Developer Prize is an award given throughout Germany for successful developer studios of computer games and other digital entertainment software . The award ceremony is organized by Aruba Events GmbH.

description

The German Developer Prize was first awarded on November 12, 2004 in Essen . Between 2005 and 2010 the prize was awarded in the oldest German premiere cinema, the Lichtburg in Essen. From 2011 to 2013, the award ceremony took place in the old boiler house in Düsseldorf . In 2014, the German Developer Award took place for the first time at Dock. One in Cologne. The program around the award ceremony has been expanded. The “Game Music Jam” takes place the evening before. In addition, the “Developer Summit” is a conference on topics that concern the German games industry. The German Developer Award is funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW . The “Developer Summit” is sponsored by the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia .

23 prizes are currently being awarded, including 10 specialist, 4 special and 9 public awards. In 2006, the “German Developer Award” and the “Gamesload Young Talent Award”, each endowed with 10,000 euros, were awarded for the first time.

A jury consisting of almost 30 people makes a pre-selection from all mobile, console and PC games produced in Germany and presents them to the public for voting. The categories are divided into audience and jury categories in a roughly 2: 1 ratio. The period for choosing the audience categories is around six weeks and is carried out online in cooperation with various media partners. From 2012, the public vote was replaced by the academy election, in which all members of the Academy of the German Developer Award and the jury are entitled to vote. In cooperation with Ubisoft / Blue Byte, the Ubisoft Blue Byte Newcomer Award is also given, which honors the best young talent concepts.

In the 2004 public election, exactly 432 participants took part. In 2005 there were already around 5,800 voters and in 2006 almost 8,400.

In 2006 a new award was presented for the first time, which was handcrafted by the Essen artist Peter Reichenbach.
