history

Kalypso Media was founded in summer 2006 by Simon Hellwig and Stefan Marcinek in Worms. Just one year after it was founded, in the summer of 2007, a branch was founded in Bracknell in Great Britain and in June 2009 a branch in Baltimore in the USA. Kalypso Media Digital Ltd., also founded in the UK in summer 2009 is responsible for the online marketing of its own games and products from other providers.

Kalypso Media has several of its own development studios. In November 2008 Kalypso founded the subsidiary Realmforge Studios GmbH based in Munich. Boxed Dreams , developer of the adventure Ceville , was fully integrated into the new company. After the well-known computer game developer Ascaron from Gütersloh filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, Kalypso founded Gaming Minds Studios GmbH, also based in Gütersloh, where 15 former Ascaron employees were taken over. Kalypso had also acquired the trademark rights to many game series from Ascaron, which are now being further developed by Gaming Minds. After the Berlin game manufacturer The Games Company had to file for bankruptcy in July 2010, Kalypso took over the rights to some of the brands of the insolvent company (including Demonicon & Uciti) in September. 17 employees of the Silver Style Entertainment studio, which is also part of The Games Company, were also taken over and worked in the newly founded Berlin studio Noumena Studios . In 2014, Noumena Studios was renamed Skilltree Studios, and in 2016 the studio was closed.

From March 2013 to at least August 2014 Kalypso published its own podcast, called "KalypsoCast", at irregular intervals (every four to six weeks) via iTunes . From the eleventh edition in November 2013, the podcast was also available as a videocast on YouTube. Regular guests were the then Kalypso managing director Stefan Marcinek, PR manager Bernd Berheide and the producers and product managers Christian Schlütter, Timo Thomas and Dennis Blumenthal. In April 2014, Kalypso Media Mobile GmbH was founded in Berlin. The first mobile and tablet games appeared in May 2015.

In January 2016, Stefan Marcinek sold his shares in Kalypso Media and left the company, so that Simon Hellwig became the sole shareholder.

Since July 2018, all rights to the titles of Pyro Studios ( Commandos , Imperial Glory , Praetorians ) belong to the portfolio of Kalypso Media Group.
