Anno 2205 is a building strategy game and the sixth part of the Anno - series. The game was developed by the German studio Blue Byte Mainz (formerly Related Designs ) and published by the French company Ubisoft . It was announced at the E3 2015 game fair and was released on November 3, 2015.

Anno 2205 also plays like the previous part Anno 2070 in the future. Innovations include the possibility of colonizing the moon and the new in-house game engine , which enables larger game worlds. Furthermore, Anno 2205 can be played offline, Uplay serves as copy protection.

Differences to the predecessors

Compared to the previous parts , the maps in Anno 2205 are up to five times larger. In addition, a new system made up of several sectors combines the previously separate island worlds into one large, persistent game world. While goods between islands can for the first time be exchanged through bridges, separate trade routes are required to exchange goods between the new sectors. Also for the first time in the Anno series, modules were introduced with which production buildings can be improved.

Fighting takes place here only in certain zones, the Arctic or the temperate zone. For the first time, NPCs can no longer attack and occupy islands, so they no longer expand. "Military invasions" can only be switched on at the beginning of the game, which enables the use of ships to free the besieged sectors. Due to the minor importance of fighting and the less relevant trade routes, ships are of much less importance. Accordingly, the items known from the predecessors have also been abolished and port buildings can hardly be found anymore. The playing cards are completely visible from the start of the game.

The campaign that was separate in the previous versions was integrated into the already known endless game mode with larger quests. Games are no longer saved manually, but automatically each time the company or sector changes. The online features "World Market" and "Conference" were newly introduced and can be used optionally.

The selection of camera settings, which now offers scripted "sightseeing flights", has been expanded. In addition, a day-night cycle was introduced.

Development history

To announce the game, pre-orderers were offered a closed beta key, which would be released when the closed beta opened. In August, however, the closed beta was canceled because the resources were to be used to complete the game. Pre-orderers therefore received a command ship and an exclusive corporation emblem for the finished game. As became known with the release of the DLC "Frontiers", the development of the game has been terminated, as a result no more bug fixes or further content updates will be released.

Extensions

An expansion for Anno 2205 was released on February 29, 2016 under the title Tundra . The expansion Orbit was released on July 20, 2016 . Finally, on October 4th, 2016, the last DLC called Frontiers was released.

With the update v1.6, the Big Five Pack was also introduced with new aspects such as the stock exchange and industrial espionage. In addition, there are now catastrophes that affect individual sectors.

The Anno 2205 King Edition combines all previously published expansions.

reception

Gamestar praised the new beginning, the size of the game world and its centering on the construction part, but criticized the narrative and playful weak campaign as well as the boring military part. PC Games emphasized the opulent graphics engine and, despite the simplification of the gameplay , attested that it was still sufficiently complex to captivate the players. The repetitive military part and the missing savegame function were criticized .

successor

On August 22, 2017, Ubisoft announced Anno 1800, the successor to Anno 2205 , which was released on April 16, 2019.
