The Related Designs GmbH was a German development studio for computer games based in Mainz and is known for the development of Anno -Spieleserie . It was part of the Ubisoft group and has been operating as one of three studios of the developer Blue Byte (Blue Byte Mainz) since June 18, 2014 .
history
Related Designs was founded in 1995 by Thomas Pottkämper, Burkhard Ratheiser, Thomas Stein and Jens Vielhaben. Initially, they mainly focused on developing smaller mid -range games , promotional games , and online games . They later developed the real-time strategy game America: No Peace Beyond the Line for Data Becker , which was published in 2000 and was a great success with around 300,000 copies sold worldwide. This was followed by two more real-time strategy games, No Man's Land and Castle Strike .
In 2006 Anno 1701 was created , the third part of the Anno series (more than 5.2 million copies sold worldwide). In 2007, Ubisoft took over the 30% stake in Related Designs by acquiring the German publisher Sunflowers . The Curse of the Dragon , the add-on to Anno 1701, followed in October 2007 . In December 2008 the "King's Edition", consisting of the main game Anno 1701 and the expansion pack The Curse of the Dragon , was published. In June 2009 the fourth part of the series Anno 1404 was published. In February 2010 the add-on Anno 1404: Venice was released .
The next sequel to the series followed on November 17, 2011 with Anno 2070 , which, in contrast to its predecessors, which played in the past, relied on a future scenario. On April 11, 2013, Ubisoft also bought the remaining 70% of the shares and thus took over the studio in full.
