Anno 1503

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anno 1503 is the second part of the Anno series . It works on a similar gameplay as its predecessor Anno 1602 , but the graphics are more detailed and the economic cycles are more complex.

Gameplay

In Anno 1503 there are no more taxes, but the player now earns directly from the goods that he makes available to his residents via market stalls.

The pirates mostly have permanent settlements, which are often guarded by towers. Pirates can demand protection money, the amount of which depends on the player's assets. Unarmed ships can protect themselves against fire by pirates by hoisting the white flag, but they are occasionally robbed in return.

The hawkers, the Venetians , can now - like the natives - own their own island. You can barter with other indigenous people by sending a scout to the indigenous market houses. The only exceptions are the Venetians and the pirates, who also own ships and trade.

The players can form military alliances with each other, which obliges the contracting parties to support each other in the event of war; However, this only applies if you are attacked on your own island.

In the game's intro film, the main developers portrayed themselves with the characters.

Anno 1503: Treasures, Monsters and Pirates (Expansion)

With this extension of Anno 1503 , further buildings, including a cannon tower and a district court , as well as other graphic effects, animals and natural disasters were added. In addition, twelve new single player scenarios with different levels of difficulty and three new endless games with new game elements have been added. The boarding of enemy ships is made possible and from now on robbers appear in the settlement, who rob the inhabitants and are deterred with the construction of a gallows . There can be riots. Another function is the statistics screen, which informs the player whether his city will be supplied with enough consumer goods in the long term.

Anno 1503 and the multiplayer mode

Anno 1503 was supposed to have a multiplayer mode, which was never officially available due to extensive design errors and the resulting technical problems. The developers had to accept bitter criticism in this regard, because immediately after the game was released, the free upgrade of a functional multiplayer mode was guaranteed. After more than a year of development work on the multiplayer mode was stopped. Originally, the developers of DirectX's multiplayer API , DirectPlay, blamed it. This is supposedly not up to the high volume of data from Anno 1503 . As a result, their own multiplayer engine was developed, but this also failed. One development stage of the multiplayer mode is contained in the add-on Monsters, Treasures and Pirates , and another in the version on the DVD of Computer Bild Spiele , where it can be unlocked with a few simple steps. The same applies to the Ubisoft reissued King Edition (Exclusive Gold Edition).

In order to make the multiplayer work with the version on GOG.com , you have to activate it in the Windows registry editor.

Board game

The Anno merchandise comes with a board game by Klaus Teuber called Anno 1503 and the extension Anno 1503 - Aristocrats and Pirates . The game principle is largely based on that of its computer model.
