The fundraiser Friendly Fire ( English for " friendly fire ") is a since 2015 annually by YouTubers and streamers such as Gronkh or the team of PietSmiet carried out Community Live Stream . Donations are collected for social institutions.

Friendly Fire 1

The first edition of Friendly Fire took place on December 12, 2015. The organizer was the PietSmiet editor-in-chief Mikkel Robrahn. 170,000 euros were collected for the benefit of Gaming Aid eV . 57,000 spectators tuned in at the maximum time.

Friendly Fire 2

In Friendly Fire 2 on 3 December 2016, eleven YouTuber involved. The twelve-hour stream had 92,000 viewers at times and was also taken over live by Spiegel Online . This made it the Twitch stream with the greatest reach of the year. As part of this event, spectators and sponsors such as Unitymedia raised over 300,000 euros to the benefit of the Federal Association of German Food Bank , Vier Pfoten eV and the Herzsprung animal shelter .

Friendly Fire 3

On December 2, 2017, the event took place for the third time with Friendly Fire 3 . In the process, over € 640,000 was generated in favor of the Silver Stripes Association , the Vogelgnadenhof and Altenheim für Tiere eV , the Cystic Fibrosis Association and the A Last Wish project , including over € 470,000 through direct donations from viewers. The donations reached all purposes in equal parts.

Friendly Fire 4

On the same evening, the organizer Mikkel Robrahn presented the date for Friendly Fire 4 , which took place on December 8, 2018. Almost € 887,500 were generated for the German Depression Aid , the German Cancer Aid , the Exit-Germany initiative , School without Racism - School with Courage , the Weeze Zoo and the Tiernotruf.de project , of which almost € 620,000 came from audience donations . Each of these six clubs received around € 146,000. In addition, around € 11,000 will go to the Association of Social Heroes . The twelve-hour stream had over 100,000 viewers on Twitch at times .

Friendly Fire 5

Friendly Fire 5 took place on December 7, 2019.

On October 7, 2019, the trailer for Friendly Fire V was published on the Gronkh and PietSmiet YouTube channels . The pre-sale of the merchandise for the event, which is distributed via Yvolve.de , has also started. Furthermore, it was announced that CD Projekt RED and Bandai Namco with Cyberpunk 2077 are working as cooperation partners of the stream this year. The merchandise is based on Cyberpunk 2077 . The donations from Friendly Fire V go to the association of social heroes , PrimaKlima e. V. , the practice without borders - Segeberg e. V. , the organization HateAid , the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany , the Rett Germany e. V. , the German Animal Welfare Association and the Pacific Garbage Screening Association .

During the twelve-hour live stream alone, viewers donated over 730,000 euros, the first 100,000 euros of which after around 20 minutes. In addition, there was merchandise income of at least 280,000 euros as well as auctions and sponsor donations. As a result, the fifth edition of the stream achieved total revenue of 1,190,366 euros, breaking the one million euro mark for the first time. The twelve-hour stream reached over 100,000 viewers on Twitch at times, with an average of 87,000 viewers watching the stream.

Friendly distancing

Under the motto #FriendlyDistancing , an unscheduled charity stream took place on April 14, 2020 amid the Corona crisis. The members of the friendly fire team streamed on their Twitch channels from their respective homes. With the results obtained donations associations and organizations should be supported, particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic affected or help sufferers, including Germany's Relief , CADUS , Jugendnotmail , Berlin city mission , Gängeviertel Hamburg and The Ark .

During the stream, over 147,000 euros were collected through audience donations. Twitch is also participating in the fundraising campaign with EUR 15,000.

Friendly Fire 6

The sixth edition of the charity livestream is expected to take place on December 5, 2020.

Event

The event takes place once a year. The 2015 and 2016 editions took place in the TaKeTV Gaming Bar in Krefeld , the 2017 and 2018 editions in the Unitymedia MediaLoft in Cologne and the 2019 edition in the Esport Factory in Osnabrück . As part of the live stream, the participants play video and party games, make up faces and dye or cut their hair.

Participants have been Mikkel Robrahn (member of the PietSmiet team), Erik Range (Gronkh), Tatjana Werth (Pandorya), Pascal Rothkegel (MrMoregame), Florian Heider (Der Heider), Artur Niemczuk (FisHC0p), Max Ensikat (RoyalPhunk). , as well as the PietSmiet team (Peter Smits, Dennis Brammen, Christian Stachelhaus, Jonathan Apelt, Sebastian Lenßen). The group has always refused to expand the team.

However, in the livestream 2016 Frodoapparat and the Space Frogs (also known from the donation stream Loot for the world ), as well as 2017 Hella von Sinnen were present as guests.

Awards

In 2017, the Friendly Fire campaign won the Germany Web Video Prize in the Social Campaign category . This was followed in 2018 by the special prize of the German Computer Game Prize .

In 2019, the project, together with Evonik Industries AG , was awarded gold in the chemicals & pharmaceuticals category at the German Prize for Online Communication (#dpok).

In December 2019, Friendly Fire 4 won the special award for social commitment at the German Developer Award .
