The Games Academy is a private school founded in 2000 that specializes in training / courses in the game development and computer games industry. The founder and rector to this day is Thomas Dlugaiczyk , who previously headed the USK and is a founding member of the Federal Association of Computer Game Developers .

The Games Academy is the oldest and most renowned private special school in this area in the German-speaking region. It was the first games school on the European continent. The Games Academy is regularly reported in German-language computer game magazines and many of the student projects have been awarded prizes, for example the game Corporate Conflict Mars won the Gamesload Newcomer Award as part of the 2009 German Developer Prize . The Academy is also represented at trade fairs in the industry, such as gamescom .

The Games Academy offers four different trainings:

  • Game Design (2 semesters)
  • Game Art & Animation (4 semesters)
  • Game Programming (4 semesters)
  • Game Production (4 semesters)

The game design training can also be linked to the other training courses (art, programming and production). In addition, two-week "trial courses" are offered. In 2012 the Klett Group took part in the Games Academy. In 2014 the Games Academy founded the GA Hochschule , which was recognized by the state in 2014, but closed again in 2015.

The Games Academy has been a recognized supplementary school for training as a game designer in the state of Berlin since 2003. The branch of the Games Academy in the state of Hesse (Frankfurt am Main - founded in 2007) is an indicated supplementary school.

In cooperation with the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig (HBK) and the University of Applied Sciences Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel , graduates of the Game Art & Animation and Game Programming courses can optionally acquire a bachelor's degree according to the admission criteria of the Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel University of Applied Sciences. Depending on the course, this is either a Bachelor in Communication Design (Game Artist) or Media Informatics (Game Programmer).

The Games Academy works with several well-known companies in the industry, such as Crytek , Nintendo , Microsoft and Sony .

In 2018 the Games Academy switched to non-profit organizations.
