The Travian Games GmbH is a German company in the software industry, based in Munich , specializing in the development and distribution of browser games has specialized. The company also acts internationally as a publisher for selected games. Travian Games is the largest company in the games industry in Bavaria and is a member of the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software .

history

In 2003, the team around company founder Gerhard Müller developed the first version of the strategy browser game Travian . The free-to-play game was released the summer of the following year and renamed Travian: Legends in 2015 . In 2006 the core game Travian already reached one million players. As of 2009, the game was one of the most successful browser games in the world.

At the beginning of 2005 the Travian Games GbR was founded in Munich and renamed Travian Games GmbH in the autumn of the same year. Initially, the company had four employees, including the founder's brother, Siegfried Müller, and his former school friend, Holger Miller. Due to the increasing number of employees and the focus on new developments, the company moved to a larger office complex in Munich in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the company joined the Hamburg-based developer studio Northworks, which up until then had brought two browser games onto the market, including Goalunited, with the support of the city of Hamburg's prototype funding .

In 2011, Travian Games GmbH was awarded the prize for the best German publisher . In 2012, Travian Games also took over a majority stake in the Cologne-based developer studio Bright Future , with whom it had already successfully developed the garden simulation game Miramagia two years earlier and the MMO browser game Rail Nation in 2013 . Among other things, Bright Future worked with Electronic Arts on the successful PC game series Football Manager .

For the 10th anniversary of the core game Travian , which has been run under Travian: Legends since 2015, the new browser game Travian Kingdoms was created under the direction of company founder Gerhard Müller . The online racing game United GP was also launched in 2014 .

According to industry reports, the company was the largest employer in the games industry in Bavaria in 2016 .

Since the change in management in 2015, the company has increasingly focused on the development and distribution of PC games with strong multiplayer components that aim to enable a community-driven gaming experience. With the new managing director Lars Janssen, the game developer's strategic direction changed. Besides the core business, developing its own browser games, the Bavarian game developer since 2016 as a third-party marketer (Third-party publishers ) for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Crowfall (ArtCraft Entertainment) and since 2017 for the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) Shroud of the Avatar (Portalarium).

Travian Games has been a member of the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software since April 2017 . In January 2020 the company had around 190 employees.
