Deep Silver Fishlabs (own spelling Deep Silver FISHLABS) is a Hamburg-based developer and publisher of mobile computer games for smartphones and tablet PCs . Founded in 2004, it has been an independent department of the Koch Media media group since 2013 .
Company history
The studio was founded in 2004 by Michael Schade and Christian Lohr as Fishlabs Entertainment GmbH and develops computer games for smartphones and tablets. When developing his games, the developer uses the in-house Abyss Engine . The best-known title by Fishlabs is the science fiction series Galaxy on Fire , the second part of which, Galaxy on Fire 2, was awarded the German Computer Game Prize in 2011 for the “Best Mobile Game”. In addition to its own brands, the studio also developed advertising games for companies such as Barclays , Volkswagen and Mazda . In 2011, Fishlabs was named the best studio of the year by the Academy of the German Developer Prize, and in 2012 the company was ranked 14th in the list of the world's best games studios compiled by Develop100 .
In October 2013, Fishlab had to file for bankruptcy and 25 employees were laid off. In December 2013, Koch Media took over the game developer including its 52-strong workforce, trademark rights and technology. However, the founders Michael Schade and Christian Lohr left the company. With the takeover, Koch Media hoped to gain a foothold in the market for mobile computer games. Fishlabs was assigned to Koch Media's computer game label Deep Silver and renamed Deep Silver Fishlabs.
Since 2018 Deep Silver Fishlabs has focused on the development of video games for consoles and has stopped working on mobile platforms.
Games
Deep Silver Fishlabs has been developing games for PS4 and Xbox on the technical basis of Unreal Engine 4 and for Nintendo Switch since 2018.
Fishlabs Entertainment developed for the platforms Java , Symbian OS , Android , iOS and tvOS , among others .
