XTAR-EUR is a commercial communications satellite for military applications that an Ariane 5 ECA launched into space on February 12, 2005. With fuel, it has a mass of 3,631 kg and orbits the earth in a geostationary orbit at 29 ° East.

It is equipped with 12 X-band transponders (7.90–8.40 GHz uplink, 7.25–7.75 GHz downlink). The stationary antenna points to Spain, the pivoting antenna reaches eastern Brazil, the Atlantic Ocean, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Singapore. Parabolic antennas with a diameter of approx. 2.4 m are required to receive the signals. The LS-1300 platform provides an electrical output of approx. 15 kW.

The joint venture XTAR, LLC composed of Loral Space & Communications (USA) and Hisdesat (Spain) commissioned the satellite, operates the satellite and offers the transmission capacities to the governments and defense ministries in Spain, the USA and friendly NATO countries. XTAR-EUR was built by Space Systems / Loral (SSL).
