Xianrendong and Diaotonghuan
Xianrendong and Diaotonghuan ( 仙人洞 、 吊桶 环 遗址 , Xiānréndòng, Diàotǒnghuán yízhǐ , English Sites of Xianrendong and Diaotonghuan ) are two close-by archaeological sites from the period between the Paleolithic and Neolithic (12,000–9,000 BC) in the Wann District Jiangxi Province, China . They were excavated in 1962. The finds have provided valuable material for the study of early Paleolithic cultures as well as the origins of pottery and rice cultivation .
A jug (yuándǐguàn 圆底 罐) discovered there was dated to 6875 ± 240 BC using the radiocarbon method . Dated.
From the Xianrendong cave, the world's oldest, reliably dated remains of pottery were discovered, the age of which is given as 20,000 to 19,000 calendar years prior to today.
The sites Xianrendong and Diaotonghuan are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-54).
