Xinglong Station
Xinglong Station ( Chinese 興隆 觀測 站 / 兴隆 观测 站 , Pinyin Xīnglóng Guāncèzhàn ) is a Chinese observatory ( IAU code 327) that is located in the administrative area of Chengde , 4 km east of the city of Nanshuangdong and south of the summit of Mount Yan Shan at 960 m Altitude. Commissioned in 1968, it was initially an "observation base" (观测 基地, Pinyin Guāncè Jīdì ) of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory and has been directly subordinate to the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2001 .
Telescopes
The main instrument of the observatory is the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope ( LAMOST ) (roughly translated as wide-angle multi-object optical fiber spectroscopic telescope ). This reflector telescope , optimized for spectroscopy, is the largest Chinese optical telescope. Its cost was $ 30 million. It was put into operation in June 2007.
The observatory also has a number of smaller telescopes. Sorted according to their aperture these are:
- 2.16 m Ritchey Chrétien reflector telescope .
- 1.26 m infrared telescope
- 85 cm reflector telescope
- 60/90 cm Schmidt telescope
- 60 cm reflector telescope
- Mark III photoelectric astrolabe
