Leisure and Tourism

Even during the Japanese rule over Taiwan , the Sizihwan Bay was known for its charming landscape and a popular destination. The seaside resort on the beach, which still exists today, was opened in 1916. In 1923, Japan's Crown Prince and later Emperor Hirohito paid a visit to the bay.

The tourist significance of Sizihwan is still unbroken today and has increased in recent times. On the waterfront, which was expanded in 2012, both Kaohsiung citizens and guests from outside enjoy the view of the sea and the numerous ships cruising on the horizon or entering the port of Kaohsiung. The main attraction and popular photo object is the picturesque sunset that can be observed here, which also attracts lovers. In addition, quite a few bridal couples come to take photos in their wedding clothes in front of a romantic backdrop. There is a restaurant with guest rooms on the bay's small sandy beach, where you can also swim in summer. Despite the fishing ban, you can see many anglers on the dikes in the bay.

Former British Consulate.

Further attractions on a hill not far from the coast are the red brick former British consulate in Takao (built in 1865), now used as a restaurant with a beautiful view, and the Taoist Temple of the Eighteen Lords (Chinese 十八 王公廟Shíbā Wánggōng miào ). Further north, on the grounds of the Sun Yat-sen University, you can also visit the beach house and a limousine of the former President of the Republic of China Chiang Kai-shek .

A parking lot for coaches was built on the road to the bay. Sizihwan is particularly popular with tourists from China . According to the Taiwanese Ministry of Transport (Tourism Department), in 2010, Sizihwan was the third most popular travel destination for Chinese tourists in Taiwan after Sun and Moon Lake and Taipei 101, and was even ahead of the highly renowned Taipei Palace Museum .
