Xwejni Bay is a bay on the Maltese island of Gozo , which is located in the municipality of Żebbuġ . It is used by tourists as a bathing bay and starting point for diving. The closest place to the coast is Marsalforn . The bay has a small pebble beach, to the west of the bay a rocky plateau with a double arch and a cave with a chimney stretches along the coast.

Salt extraction

Flat basins for salt extraction have been created on the rock plateau in front of it since Roman times . A small part (around 300 salt pans) is still in operation today. Eight families were still active in salt extraction in 2009. Depending on the season, the salt pans are open from May to September. The salt from the bay is sold through supermarkets and smaller shops on the island. There is direct sales.

Diving

The double arch reef, which is accessed north of Xwejni Bay, is particularly interesting for divers. The maximum diving depth is 45 meters.
