Yüksel Yavuz
Yüksel Yavuz (born February 1, 1964 in Karakoçan , Turkey ) is a German-Turkish auteur filmmaker of Kurdish descent.
Yavuz, who has been in Germany since 1980, studied sociology and economics in Hamburg . With Mein Vater der Gastarbeiter (1994), an autobiographical documentary , Yavuz presented his first cinematic work. This has received several awards, including the ver.di television award . His second feature film Aprilkinder (1998) received a special award at the Baden-Baden Days of Television Play and the audience award at the Max Ophüls Prize film festival in 1999 . Another feature film by the filmmaker followed with Kleine Freiheit (2003). His film Close-Up - Kurdistan (2007), a close-up of his Kurdish homeland, recently premiered in Cologne.
