Yadvinder Malhi

Yadvinder Malhi (* 1968 ) is an ecosystem scientist. He is a professor at Oxford University .

Life

Malhi graduated from 1987 to 1990 at Queens' College of Cambridge University , a master's degree of science with an emphasis on physics. He received his PhD from 1990-1993 in the Department of Meteorology at Reading University . After further stations, u. a. at Edinburgh University , he has been Professor of Ecosystem Science at Oxford University since 2007.

Act

Malhi was one of the drafters of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report .

In the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis , Malhi advocates the conservation and restoration of ecosystems for the purpose of storing carbon and regulating the climate . He refers to the global effects of a loss of rainforest , for example through its conversion into cattle ranches or oil palm plantations .

In 2018 Malhi was awarded the Patron's Medal .
