Yael Margelisch (born February 15, 1991 ) is a Swiss paraglider pilot from Verbier . As the first woman ever, Yael Margelisch flew more than 500 km in this discipline.

Life

Yael Margelisch started paragliding at the age of 19. After receiving her pilot's license, she received a speed flight license in 2012, a tandem license in 2014 and has also been teaching paragliding since 2015.

Sporting successes

Yael Margelisch was the Swiss paragliding champion in 2018, took third place in the European Championship and second place in the World Cup final . On August 9, 2019, she became vice world champion at the World Championship for paragliders in Krusevo .

On October 12, 2019, she flew the current world record for women in Brazil over a straight distance of 531.8 km. With the same flight, she also holds the record in the free route category with up to three turning points with 552.4 km.

Yael Margelisch already broke another world record on May 1, 2019 in the Cross Country Woman category . Here she flew 263 kilometers in a triangle over the French Alps , as confirmed by the FAI . Yael Margelisch has already secured ten podium places in the World Cup. The Valais woman was in the air for around ten hours to achieve her world records .
