Yan Pascal Tortelier

Yan Pascal Tortelier (born April 19, 1947 in Paris ) is an international French violinist and conductor .

Life

Tortelier is the son of the French cellist Paul Tortelier . After completing his training, he became conductor of the Ulster Orchestra from 1989 to 1992 , before he became conductor of the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester for eleven years until 2003 . From 2005 to 2008 he was a guest conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra . Since 2009 he has been the conductor of the Brazilian Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP) and at the same time guest conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain . His successor in São Paolo has been the American conductor Marin Alsop since 2012 . From 2016 to 2019 he was chief conductor of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra . His successor in Reykjavik will be the Finnish conductor Eva Ollikainen from 2020 .

Tortelier recorded the cello concerts by Camille Saint-Saëns and Arthur Honegger with the cellist Julian Lloyd Webber .
