Yanardag ( Turkmen : Yanardag / Янардаг on German mountain burning , * 1991) is an Akhal-Teke - stallion that belonged to the former Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov .

The stallion is a Turkmen national symbol, which is depicted in the coat of arms of Turkmenistan and on other Turkmen national emblems. Numerous newspaper reports have been written about him.

The horse is named after Yanar Dağ , a natural gas fire that has been burning on the slope of a hill in Azerbaijan since ancient times .

Life

Yanardag was bred in Turkmenistan in 1991 by Geldy Kyarizov, a breeder who did a lot for the Akhal-Teke breed. 1991 is the year of Turkmenistan's independence from the Soviet Union. Yanardag was Akhal-Teke World Champion in Moscow in 1999 and subsequently acquired by Saparmyrat Nyýazow. Nyýazow was President of Turkmenistan from 1990 to 2006.

On the website of the Akhal-Teke breeders' association in Turkmenistan, Yanardag is referred to as the "dun with a golden shimmer ( golden dun ), which is characteristic of all Akhal-Teke breeders ". The shade Golden Dun is also called Bulanaya in Akhal-Teke breeding , the Russian name for fallow.

The central figure of the Turkmen coat of arms has been a representation of Yanardag in natural colors on a blue circle since 2003. Yanardag can be seen on a Turkmen stamp pad from 2001. It adorns the back of the 50 manat banknote from 2005. In 2014, a statue of Yanardag was unveiled in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat .
