Christian Mayerhöfer
Christian Mayerhöfer (born June 16, 1971 in Mainz ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion .
Mayerhöfer began his career with Dürkheimer HC , with whom he won the German field hockey championship in 1992 and 1993. From 1997 to 2000 he won the indoor hockey championship four times and in 2000 he won the European Indoor Hockey Cup. In 1995 he and his team won the German Cup in field hockey, in 1996 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup.
In 1992, the left-back made his debut in the German national hockey team after winning third place at the European Championship with the junior team. He was nominated for the Olympic team in 1992 and used in a game, as a member of the team he also received the gold medal.
He also received the Silver Laurel Leaf with the German hockey team on June 23, 1993.
In the years to come he was a regular on the national team. In 1994 he finished fourth at the World Championships, in 1995 he became European Champion and helped win the FIH Champions Trophy . At his second Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , he finished fourth. This was followed in 1997 by victories at the European Indoor Championships and the Champions Trophy, third place at the 1998 World Championships and another victory at the 1999 European Outdoor Championships. In 2000, he took second place with the national team at the Champions Trophy and fifth at the Olympic Playing in Sydney.
In total, Mayerhöfer played in 315 international matches, 12 of them indoors. He replaced Volker Fried as a record national player and was the first German hockey player to complete over 300 international matches. Björn Michel was his successor as a record national player.
