Yankee White

Yankee White is the nickname given to the background check or background check carried out on employees of the United States Department of Defense and employees of the President and Vice President .

The Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) in this regard , which is required in the Security Review Act , is carried out by the Office of Personnel Management . As part of the investigation, employees are extensively checked for their background; one requirement is, for example, US citizenship and undoubted loyalty to the state.

Categories

There are three categories of background checks:

  • Category 1 receives selected management personnel in sensitive positions in the direct environment of the President and Vice President, for example:
    • the Chief of Staff , Military Office of the White House ( White House Military Office (WHMO))
    • the assistant to the chief of staff
    • the military aide de camps of the President and Vice-Presidents
    • the director of the US Army Transportation Agency in the White House
    • the director of the White House Medical Unit
    • the director of the special programs department, WHMO
    • the White House meal coordinator
    • the Commander and Deputy Commander of the White House Communications Agency
    • the pilot and copilot of Air Force One and Marine One
  • Category 2 is given to the staff on a full-time basis in the direct environment of the President and Vice President, for example:
    • the flight personnel as well as the maintenance and security personnel of the presidential aircraft
    • the staff of the White House communications agency
    • the staff of the US Army Transportation Agency in the White House
    • the staff of the Medical Department of the White House
    • the White House cleaning staff
  • Category 3 is given to people close to the President, for example:
