Yapei is a city in the Savannah region in Ghana .

Yapei is the northernmost point of Lake Volta and is also called Tamale Port (dt. Port of Tamale ), as it is an inland port in Lake Volta and ensures the connection between Tamale and the south. Yapei was planned as the port of Tamale in urban planning and is therefore still referred to in older maps. Yapei is located 30 km southwest of Tamale, the provincial capital of the neighboring Northern Region .

The port of Yapei was built with Russian financial aid and planning assistance. However, the White Volta, which flows into Lake Volta, has little water in the dry season. Yapei is located on the left bank of the White Volta near its mouth. The port is then no longer functional.

The population of Yapei often lives from fishing in the fish-rich Volta Lake.
