Chongwenmen Church

The Chongwenmen Church ( Chinese  北京基督教會崇文門堂 , Pinyin Běijīng Jidu Jiaohui Chongwenmen táng , English Beijing Chongwenmen Christian Church ) or short ( 崇文門教堂 , Chongwenmen Jiaotang , English Chongwenmen Church ) or Asbury Church ( 亚斯立堂 , Yàsīlì táng , English Asbury Church / Yasili Church ) is an Evangelical Church of the American Methodists in Beijing , People's Republic of China . It is located on Hougou Hutong Street (2D) in the Dongcheng District of Beijing.

The original building was erected in 1870 during the Qing Dynasty , the church burned down in 1900, the 26th year of the Guangxu reign, and was rebuilt in 1903.

In 1982 the Chongwenmen Church was reopened after a long break.

It is the largest Protestant church building in the area of ​​the city of Beijing, it houses the largest Protestant congregation in China (Beijing Christian Council).

Since 2006 it has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Beijing (6-876).
