Gauge : 610 mm ( 2 foot track )

The Yaxham Light Railway is a narrow gauge - museum railway with a track width of 610 mm (2 feet ) in the village of Yaxham in Norfolk ( England ) at the station of the Mid-Norfolk Railway .

history

In 1967, the tenant of the DC Potter station building laid the first narrow-gauge railroad tracks at a freight transshipment point in order to drive there with his Hunslet type B ( 0-4-0ST ) "Cackler". The tracks he used at that time are still visible from the passing trains of the Mid-Norfolk Railway and are now used again for the freight transport of the museum railway. However, the steam locomotive was moved over the standard-gauge track to the then 800 m long tracks of the Yaxham Park Light Railway (YPLR), which had been laid on the meadows behind the station and was finally taken over by today's Yaxham Light Railway and replaced with other rails were.

today

The main route is still around 330 m long today. Vehicles that have been acquired from mines and other locations over the years run on it. Passenger trains are usually pulled by diesel locomotives (as of 2005).
