Yeghishé Gizirian

Yeghishé Gizirian (birth name Zaven , born July 15, 1925 in Damascus ; † March 18, 2016 ) was a bishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church .

Life

He belonged to the monastic brotherhood of the Etchmiadzin Cathedral (Church of Our Lady of St. Etchmiadzin). In 1982 he was ordained bishop by Wasgen I , the "Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians", and appointed Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Great Britain, based in Lambeth Palace , the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury . He was a participant in the Lambeth Conference , the ten-year assembly of all Anglican bishops . From 1990 to 2002 he was President of the Council of Oriental Orthodox Churches in Great Britain. In 1993 he was appointed archbishop. In 2000 his application for retirement was granted.
