The Yellow Button rose is an English rose that David Austin introduced in 1975. It is a descendant of 'Wife of Bath' x 'Chinatown'. It is the first yellow English rose Austin put on the market.
description
The rose variety itself is rather weak and has therefore not been on sale since the 1980s, but as the parent of important English roses, Yellow Button is very important for the cultivations of Austin.
Austin writes quote:
“... I have always been convinced that a cross between 'Graham Thomas' and 'Yellow Button' would result in a variety ... Unfortunately such a cross turned out to be very difficult because 'Yellow Button' produces little pollen and no seeds . Only by collecting tiny amounts of pollen from hundreds of flowers did we get enough for our breeding. "
The 'Yellow Button' has a short growth of approx. 75 cm high and just as wide. The flowers are medium-sized, rosette-shaped with recurved petals, quartered, with a button eye. The color fluctuates between light and darker yellow, in the middle there is often a yolk yellow blob , hence the name. The scent is strong and fruity. The foliage is pale green and shiny.
