Yolande Bain-Horsford

Yolande Bain-Horsford (* in Saint Andrew ) is a Grenadian politician with the New National Party (NNP).

Life

Yolande Bain-Horsford completed her schooling at St. Joseph Convent High School and then began studying at St. Lawrence College in Ontario and studying gender politics and planning at the University of the West Indies (UWI). She then entered the civil service and was Director of Gender, Family and Women's Affairs for a United Nations Institutional Empowerment and Ecotourism Program . In 2001, as Director of Gender and Family Affairs, she was instrumental in the development, legislative process and implementation of the Domestic Violence Act of 2001 .

Because of her merits, Yolande Bain-Horsford was named a Senate Member and Parliamentary Secretary for Gender and Family Affairs for the Department of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Culture, Gender and Family Affairs. In a 2004 by-election , she was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives as a candidate for the New National Party (NNP) in the constituency of St. Andrews South West and took office as Minister for Housing, Social Services and Gender Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Keith Claudius Mitchell , which she held until the defeat of the NNP in the elections on July 8, 2008.

In November 2014, Prime Minister Mitchell appointed Yolande Bain-Horsford as Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture in his new administration. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, she took over as Minister for Agriculture, Land, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment on July 1, 2016.
