Yorgos Loukos

Yorgos Loukos (* 1948 or 1950 in Athens ) is a Greek ballet dancer and choreographer.

Loukos studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and philosophy at the Université de Provence . He also took dance lessons and then performed the classical and modern repertoire at the Zurich Opera House , the Théâtre du Silence in Paris, the Ballet National de Marseille and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1984 he took part in a performance of Medea by Robert Wilson with the ballet of the Opéra National de Lyon . He remained connected to the ensemble, of which he has been director since 1991.

Loukos has directed the biennial International Dance Festival in Cannes since 1992. In 2005 he took over the management of the International Theater Festival in Athens, which, with over a hundred performances of works by the international theater avant-garde every summer, has become one of the most important festivals of its kind in Europe.
