The Yosemite Falls are among the highest and most famous waterfalls in the world. They are located in Yosemite National Park in California , USA .
With a total height of 739 m, the three-part Yosemite Falls in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada are often seen as the highest waterfalls in North America , although there are a few other falls that are higher but have far less or only occasional water (sa).
The water of Yosemite Creek first falls down a steep rock face at the Upper Falls 435 m. Then follows a series of smaller waterfalls and rapids that can hardly be seen from a distance. These cascades (Middle Cascades) have a drop height of 206 m. This is followed by the 98 m high Lower Falls before the water in the valley flows into the Merced River .
The Lower Falls are easy to reach on the valley floor and are accordingly well attended. A 5.5 km long, steep and strenuous hiking trail leads from there to the upper end of the waterfall. There are also several hiking trails to the Upper Falls from the north, starting from Tioga Road .
In years with little snowfall, little or no water flows over Yosemite Falls in late summer.
