Yoshi Oida

Yoshi Oida ( Japanese 笈 田 ヨ シ , Oida Yoshi ; born July 26, 1933 in Kobe ) is a Japanese actor and director.

Life

Oida completed training in the classical Japanese theater forms. This was followed by a collaboration with the writer Mishima Yukio . In 1968 Oida received an invitation from Jean-Louis Barrault to the Theater of Nations in Paris, where he has lived since then. Here began his involvement in the productions of Peter Brook .

Since 1979 Oida has staged his own plays in Germany, including a. at the Berlin Schaubühne and at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus . He also directed at the Thalia Theater .

In his educational work - Oida regularly organizes workshops - he emphasizes the conscious development of voice and body. Here he refers to techniques from Japanese Buddhism and Shinto as well as from Japanese theater ( ). In the combination of voice and movement, Oida recognizes an energy that words cannot dispose of.
