Yosef "Yossi" Yona ( Hebrew יוסף "יוסי" יונה, Born June 8, 1953 in Kirjat Ata ) is an Israeli politician of the Zionist Union .

Life

His parents Salman and Sabrina Yona emigrated to Israel from Iraq with five other siblings. After his military service in the Israel Defense Forces and his participation in the Yom Kippur War , he left the army in 1974 and studied philosophy, history and art at the University of Haifa and then at the University of Pennsylvania . At the Ben Gurion University of the Negev he got a job as a university lecturer and worked for the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute in Jerusalem. In 2012 he became a member of the Avoda party . He has been a member of the Knesset since 2015 .
