You Can Call Me Al is a 1986 song by Paul Simon , written and produced by him. It appeared on the Graceland album .
history
Writer and producer Paul Simon came up with the name of the song after an incident at a party when the host accidentally approached Simon with Al and Simon's then wife Peggy Harper with Betty . The focus of the song is a man suffering from a midlife crisis . The publication took place on September 5, 1986.
The bass solo by Bakithi Kumalo , which ends with a distinctive palindrome - the first half of the ending was recorded and - played backwards - copied behind it - contributed significantly to Al's popularity . Furthermore, Morris Goldberg contributed a solo on the Tin Whistle, which is unusual in pop music .

Music video
Gary Weis directed the music video. In the second version of the music video, one of his best friends, the actor Chevy Chase , appeared alongside Simon . He sings the song lip-synchronic while Simon sits next to it, more or less indifferent.
