youvo.org is a German-speaking online community for project- and skill-related volunteering in the areas of design , IT , communication and media production . The non-profit organization youvo e. V. operated platform has existed in its current form since 2014 and, according to its own statements, accommodates over 4,000 volunteers and 320 social organizations (as of October 2018).

functionality

Social organizations can submit project proposals to youvo.org , which are then checked by administrators . In the course of an individual consultation, a specific briefing is drawn up and the tender published.

Volunteers can register by specifying relevant fields of activity and apply to work on one of the advertised projects. After the collaboration, the project results will be published.

There are specific guidelines for collaboration between organizations and volunteers:

  • Impact: The project must have a social impact.
  • Volunteer work: Unpaid work must be justified.
  • Appreciation: Instead of a payment, an ideal reward should take place.
  • Supervision: There must be a specific contact person for the project in the organization.
  • Use: The project results should actually be used after the project.
  • Project-based: The scope of the activity must be defined in advance in terms of time and content.
  • Lead time: The project deadline must be at least one month in the future.
  • No competition: The selection of volunteers is based on previous work samples.

history

The idea behind the online platform originated in 2012 as a practical project in the social and business communication course at the Berlin University of the Arts . In March 2013 a first workshop was held in the Social Impact Lab Berlin , in June 2014 the platform went online and in 2015 it was registered as a non-profit association.

As part of the Google Impact Challenge , the initiative was recognized as a lighthouse project in 2016 and received EUR 250,000. Youvo also received project funding from the Robert Bosch Foundation . The association belongs to the Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany .
