Ysaak van Delden (born May 25, 1859 in Emden ; † May 2, 1939 in Ahaus ) was a German textile manufacturer.

Life

Origin and family

Ysaak van Delden came from an old industrial family that originated in the Netherlands. His great-grandfather Matheus van Delden was a businessman, as was his grandfather Jan van Delden (* 1798 in Deventer / NL), who was married to Maria Elisabeth Sluiters from Nordhorn. The marriage resulted in twelve children, including Gerrit van Delden , founder of the van Delden textile group in Gronau. His father Friederich Theodor (* 1826 Nordhorn) was a doctor in Emden and married to Martha Brons. Ysaak married Marie van Heek, daughter of Gerrit Jan van Heek and Julia Blijdenstein, in Enschede on August 14, 1885. This marriage resulted in four sons and a daughter, including Gerrit Jan, who became an honorary citizen of the city of Ahaus in 1958.

Professional background

Ysaak and his brother Jan as well as their uncles Gerrit and Matthieu van Delden from Gronau founded the Westphalian jute spinning and weaving mill in Ahaus in 1893, which over the years has become Europe's largest jute spinning mill. At peak times there were more than 1,600 people at work and bread. In 1999 the company went bankrupt after it was renamed Textilwerke Ahaus AG in 1972 and taken over in 1987 by the Gronau cotton spinning mill (part of the Delden Group). In recognition of his achievements - for years he had a decisive influence on the economic and social life in Ahaus - the Ahaus city council granted him honorary citizenship of the city in 1929.
