Yuán Shàng (* 177 ; † 207 ) was the third son of the Chinese warlord Yuan Shao . He was preferred by his father because of his skills and good looks. After his death in 202 (as a result of the defeat of Guandu ), Yuan Shang fought for the succession with his eldest brother Yuan Tan , but they were defeated by Cao Cao , and Yuan Shang and his older brother Yuan Xi had to flee to Gongsun Kang in Liaoning . However, their host had them murdered and sent their heads as a tribute to Cao Cao, to whom he was nominally subject.
