Yucateco

Yucatec ( Spanish yucateco from Nahuatl yucatecatl , inhabitants of Yucatán ' ) is on the one hand the adjective for the Yucatán peninsula in Central America , on the other hand it describes the inhabitants of Yucatán, especially the (Spanish-speaking) criollos and mestizos .

Specifically, the adjective for the linguistic term "Yucatec Maya" (is Mayathan ), the name of an ethnic group of Maya and her language used (to distinguish it from other Mayan variants ). As a self-designation, however, the Maya reject the designation.
