Yvon DesRochers

Yvon DesRochers (born August 10, 1945 in Montreal , † February 2, 2005 there ) was a Canadian sports official.

DesRochers was head of the organizing committee for the 2005 World Swimming Championships . The event was originally scheduled to take place in July 2005 in the Canadian metropolis of Montréal. Due to the unsecured financing of the event, the World Swimming Association (FINA) initially withdrew the city's organization on January 19, 2005. It was about a budget gap of 6.5 million euros. DesRochers was then exposed to sharp criticism in the media. The father of two killed himself in his car with a gun at the age of 59. In the end, the World Championships were held in Montreal.
