The Zurich-Bodenseebahn is a former Swiss railway company. It was founded on February 28, 1853 for the construction of the Zurich – Winterthur – Romanshorn line, but only existed for a short time because it merged with the Swiss Northern Railway to form the Swiss North Eastern Railway that same year .

Alfred Escher from Zurich and Johann Konrad Kern from Thurgau can be described as the driving forces behind society . Which also Melchior Ziegler of Winterthur should not go unnoticed.

When the shares were subscribed , which took place in Frauenfeld , Winterthur and Zurich , shares were subscribed for a total of two thirds of the necessary capital. A third of the capital had to be raised on the capital market with the help of bonds for the construction of the route. However, the two-thirds were enough to found a company. On February 28, 1853, the founding meeting of the Zurich-Bodenseebahn was held in Zurich. Melchior Ziegler was elected President. As early as June 17, 1853, an extraordinary general assembly was called at the request of Alfred Escher . At this point the merger with the Swiss Northern Railway to form the Swiss North Eastern Railway was decided. This merger on July 1, 1853 was also the first railway merger in Switzerland.
