Lake Zurich swimming

The Lake Zurich Swim is a swimming competition through the entire Lake Zurich . It takes place annually in August and is organized by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team. The route is from Rapperswil , Strandbad Coordinates: 47 ° 13 ′ 40 ″  N , 8 ° 48 ′ 47 ″  E ; CH1903:  704 078  /  231662 by Zurich , deep wells, beach with a length of 26 kilometers. It is the longest long-distance swim in Switzerland and one of the world's longest swimming marathon races.

history

Officially, this route was swum by two people before the competition events: On July 21, 1929 by Fritz Daschinger (Zurich) in a time of 12:27 hours and on August 4, 1946 by Josef Schenk (Pratteln) in 10:31: 55 hours.

The first marathon swimming event in Lake Zurich was organized in 1969 by SC Zurich and SV Limmat under the patronage of Strath-Labor AG (manufacturer Biostrath) with nine participants. In 1987, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team re-established the Lake Zurich Marathon Swimming as part of the “World Record Games of the Impossibility” (Impossibility Challenger). It has been held annually since then (with the exception of 1997).

Categories

There are the following categories (as of 2014):

  • Solo swimmers (divided into age groups)
  • Wetsuit (divided into age groups)
  • Relays without a wetsuit (open category, 3 swimmers, always rotating for an hour)
  • Relay with wetsuit (open category, 3 swimmers, always rotating for an hour)
