The Railway Company of Slovakia (ZSSK) designates electric narrow-gauge railcars for the Electric Tatra Railway located in the High Tatras as class 425.95 , which correspond to the Stadler GTW 2/6 type .

history

At the end of the 1990s, the replacement of the obsolete railcars of the 420.95 series of the Tatra Electric Railway became urgent. In connection with the bid for the 2006 Winter Olympics , the then Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) planned to purchase 15 new railcars.

The consortium GTW Vysoké Tatry , consisting of the Slovak repair shop ŽOS Vrútky , Stadler Vehicles and DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems was ultimately awarded the contract for the delivery . The production of the car bodies and the final assembly was done by ŽOS Vrútky. The first vehicle was delivered in 2000 and extensively tested on the lines of the Electric Tatra Railway.

In 2001 and 2002, ŽOS Vrútky built 13 series vehicles and a reserve drive unit. The new vehicles pushed the old railcars out of operation within a very short time. In 2006, ŽOS Vrútky completed the reserve drive unit to create another multiple unit, so that the fleet comprises a total of 15 vehicles.
