The former Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD designated electric narrow-gauge railcars as ČSD series EMU 89.0 (since 1988: series 420.95 ), which were procured for the Electric Tatra Railway located in the High Tatras .
history
Between 1964 and 1969, the Tatra electric railway underwent extensive modernization in order to meet the demands of growing tourist traffic. In addition to the renewal of tracks and systems, new vehicles were also procured.
The well-known tram manufacturer ČKD Tatra in Prague developed an eight-axle articulated railcar for the Tatra Electric Railway. The design and shape of the prototype presented in 1963 was essentially derived from the then current T2 and T3 tram types . The 17 series vehicles were delivered in 1968/1969.
The new railcars proved their worth and completely displaced the old railcars and sidecars from scheduled service.
The 17 series vehicles came to the Slovak ŽSR in 1993 . With the commissioning of the 425.95 series , the vehicles were retired and scrapped from 2000. The unit 420 959 (EMU 89 009) escaped scrapping. Since it was processed in summer 2018, it has been an operational museum set.
