from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Z Channel was an American pay TV broadcaster . It was founded in Los Angeles in 1974 by screenwriter and cineast Jerry Harvey .

The station achieved great fame by broadcasting director's cuts from various controversial Hollywood productions such as The Wild Bunch by Sam Peckinpah or Heaven's Gate by Michael Cimino, which were still unusual at the time . The other program policy was also aimed at film fans interested in works by the authors and New Hollywood cinema or other productions beyond the mainstream. Directors such as Robert Altman , Quentin Tarantino and Jim Jarmusch stated that they were influenced by the station in their later film work. A year after the death of Jerry Harvey, the station was discontinued in 1989 and replaced by a sports channel by the owners.

2004 appeared with A Magnificent Obsession - Z Channel ( : A Magnificent Obsession Z Channel ) (the daughter of a documentary by Alexandra Cassavetes John Cassavetes ).
