Zabranjena ljubav (in German: Forbidden Love, abbreviated to ZLJ ) is a Croatian soap opera by RTL Televizija. It was broadcast on weekdays and produced by Fremantle Media . The series is set in and around Zagreb .
Charisma
The broadcast of the soap began in October 2004. It produced 4 seasons with a total of 805 episodes, each with three summer breaks . The show was discontinued because the filming became too expensive and the audience ratings continued to decline. There is a minimal possibility that the soap opera will be produced again, but this has not been officially confirmed.
action
Zabranjena ljubav is about young and old people who struggle with everyday problems. It includes the typical themes of a soap opera such as homosexuality, crime or deadly diseases. The show is a remake of the Australian soap opera Sons and Daughters and even copies the initial story and character constellations. At the beginning, the series was more like a telenovela, as it was heavily focused on the story of the couple Petra Novak and Danijel Lončar.
Beginning of the series
Petra Novak, daughter of the influential couple Stjepan and Viktorija Novak, is returning from London after completing her photography degree. At the train station she meets Danijel Lončar, who has returned from Italy after losing his job there. But they part ways quickly, because, as luck would have it, both celebrate their 22nd birthday on the same day. As it turns out later, Petra and Danijel are siblings who were torn apart a few months after their birth because their parents separated. While Petra grew up with her mother Viktorija, who married the rich widower Stjepan, Danijel grew up with his father Josip, who later married the nurse Biserka Fijan and had two more children with her named Matija and Iva. Danijel, who applies to work as a gardener on the Novaks estate, is paid by Viktorija to disappear from their lives. Only when Petra urgently needs a bone marrow donation, Viktorija tells her son who he really is, so that Danijel can save his sister's life. Since they now know that they are siblings, Petra and Danijel are not allowed to love each other.
Further development
Petra and Danijel each have their own relationship with Maja Vuković and Leon Bauer, the son of fashion designer Lidija Bauer. However, the story about the two of them loses more and more importance as the series progresses. The focus is on the newly sparked affair between Viktorija and Josip, which ends after Viktorija is murdered by a former girlfriend. Nevertheless, this means the end of Josip's marriage to Biserka. The illegal machinations of Stjepan's returned wife Karolina, whose son Borna and Biserka's unscrupulous brother Zlatko Fijan want to work their way to the top, are also important. Even classic elements of a soap opera, such as outing Leons as homosexual, as well as his subsequent serial death in a car accident or time-limited storylines through love affairs are increasingly being incorporated.
After their failed relationships, Petra falls into a marriage with Igor Carević and Danijel in an affair with his stepcousin Ana. After these fail too, they accidentally get closer to each other on a trip to Split with the Novak family and even sleep together. When Stjepan finds out about this and there is an argument between him and Danijel, Danijel falls into the sea and drowns. Petra finds this difficult to deal with and after suffering a miscarriage as a result of a car accident, she decides to leave Zagreb to start a new life. Shortly afterwards, Stjepan, who saw through Karolina's scheming me, also leaves Croatia with his new love Lidija.
With the arrival of the businessman Jure Šarić, a new intigrant joins the series, who enters into a relationship with Karolina, which she uses for her own purposes. The dark past of Croatia is also worked out, which can be seen in the fate of other new characters. In the meantime, the newly developed siblings Nikola, Antun and Marijana Benčić lost their parents to the war. And the coffee house owner Nada Barić finds her son Luka Lausić, who was believed to be dead, and her missing friend Marinko Ruzić. Marinko had once abandoned Luka in front of a monastery (he is now a Catholic pastor) and fled and the USA .
After his divorce from Gabrijela, Zlatko begins a relationship with Lidija Bauer's daughter Tina Bauer, whom he eventually marries. When he learns that she has had an affair with Antun Benčić for a long time, an argument breaks out on the wedding night, in which Tina falls and falls into a coma. After an attempted murder on Antun, Zlatko tries to kill the awakened Tina, which is prevented. For fear of being arrested by the police, Zlatko rams the knife with which he actually wanted to kill Tina in the stomach and bleeds to death. Ana, taken by these events, begins a relationship with her ex-boyfriend Nikola Benčić, with whom she finally emigrates to her mother in Argentina .
