Tooth coupling

Toothed couplings are (largely) torsionally rigid and form-fitting couplings . They transmit the torque via interconnected external and internal gears.

While the internal toothing is usually straight, the external toothing is almost exclusively crowned. This enables the compensation of angular shaft misalignments . Special crowning shapes allow larger deflection angles for special applications. The permissible radial shaft misalignment for double tooth clutches is proportional to the distance L between the two tooth pairings. The advantages are the small size (high power density), the insensitivity to overloads and the suitability for high speeds .
