Zalmaiï

Zalmaiï (* 1964 in Kabul ) is an Afghan- Swiss photographer .

life and work

Zalmaiï left Kabul in 1980. After the Soviet invasion, he fled to Switzerland. Zalmaiï studied photography in Lausanne . He has been a freelance photographer since 1989 and travels mainly to Europe, the United States of America and Asia.

His photos have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. Including: The New York Times Magazine, Time , The New Yorker , Harper's Magazine , Newsweek and La Repubblica . Zalmaiï worked for Human Rights Watch , the International Committee of the Red Cross , the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees .

Zalmaiï was awarded the Visa D'Or for photojournalism and a Getty Images award .

In 2012 Zalmaiï exhibited at dOCUMENTA (13) .
